I was browsing the JNC project Hako build thread and the age old discussion came up about the unicorn of all parts… the OS Giken TC-24 dual cam head. There was a lot of heresy stemming from last years SEMA show, when OS Giken had their crown jewel on display. Rumors of the head being remade and to be offered for $30,000 have been floating around since then. The rumors are true… and it gets even wilder.
Kev from JNC spoke to an Aussie OS-Giken distributer who confirmed that as of now, six heads cast in the 80’s have been set aside and all have been spoken for. One for a lucky Australian Z car nut, five slated to be delivered to U.S. enthusiasts, and a final head for OS Giken’s demo car. More heads are planned for casting with a current price tag of just under $42,000. OS Giken is also planning to sell a 3.2 liter crate motor complete with IRTBs and a header for a mind-boggling $90,000! 400HP at 11,000 RPMs? Yes please!
By the way, what’s the going rate for one’s kidney nowadays?

CrewDawg15 over on JNC posted up some amazing pieces of plastic that he’s been working on. It’s a home-built OS Giken TC-16MAII being fed by twin 44PH Mikunis! While the TC-16 is known to power some awesome Bluebirds, this particular engine is going into a scale Fairlady roadster. Sweet!

While a ton of people have talked and dreamt of it, only a very few have tried… Building a replica of the Devil Z from Wangan Midnight. Although none of these are near the 3.1 liter L28 with twin turbos fed by triple carburetors, they deserve repect in their own right.
Gorgeous. Beautiful fabrication work on the manifolds and just a clean setup! Claimed to be no noticeable lag with this set up.
This here is engineering madness. A L28 bored out to 3.1 liters. Then the owner chopped up 3 KA heads and combined them to create a dual cam, 24 valve design. A home-brewed head that could rival OS Giken’s TC24. Then of course, two turbochargers were slapped on. Insane!

I LOVE this picture. I’m pretty sure this photoshoot was from the Wangan Midnight live action movie. Just imagine locking yourself in a warehouse with tons of parts and a gorgeous car for the day. Those Watanabes sitting in the pile look craaaaazy.
And what the motor bay of a real Devil Z would look like. OS Giken TC24 DOHC set up with twins. Probably $40+ grand in overnight parts from Japan.
The TC24 head was for the Nissan L24 engine and was a bolt on dual overhead cam design versus the stock SOHC. A negative imprint of these bad boys (along with the four cylinder head for the 510/bluebird siblings), were carved out of CHERRY WOOD, then filled with casting sand before molten metal gets poured in. Rumors says OS Giken sank 20 Million yen into this project BACK IN 1976! These heads sold for $12,000 back then, so you could imagine how rare those suckers are.
Why do I bring this up? JapaneseNostalgicCar.com featured OS Giken’s SEMA booth on their blog and apparently, they pulled the TC24 off of someone’s Fairlady in Japan to show off. If enough interest is shown, they MIGHT produce 10 or so more heads… At a cool $30,000 a piece. I need a better paying job.
