True Wangan killers. In 1985, a club was formed that gave street racing in Japan a whole new meaning. These brave (or crazy) men tore up the Bayshore Route from Tokyo to Yokohama for nearly 15 years hitting ridiculous speeds until one night a group of Bosozoku bikers challenged them. On that fateful night, an accident occurred leaving 6 bikers injured and 1 killed. What sets the Mid Night Club apart from the countless “teams” in today’s scene is that they had strict rules and guidelines… One of them being, if anyone were ever killed, the club be immediately disbanded. Clever rule.
One member pilots one of the most famous S130 Fairlady’s in Japan, if not the world. With a hopped up motor and aero including one off fenders, this red beauty was able run a top speed of over 300 kilometers per hour! On an expressway! With out modern technology! Mind bottling (like when your mind gets all trapped up, like in a bottle)!
Love those color-matched Panasports. I wanted to paint my centers orange and the barrels black on my SSR’s but I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off.
Who needs a radio when you can listen to your motor screaming? Tach counts up to 10k RPM, I wonder what she redlines at?
Sweet CF radio delete holding all the vital electronics.
And what motor propels this rocket to such mind numbing speeds? A hopped up RB? Small block V8? Nope, the good ol’ L28. I bet the Devil Z looks pretty good from this S130′s rearview mirror!

While a ton of people have talked and dreamt of it, only a very few have tried… Building a replica of the Devil Z from Wangan Midnight. Although none of these are near the 3.1 liter L28 with twin turbos fed by triple carburetors, they deserve repect in their own right.
Gorgeous. Beautiful fabrication work on the manifolds and just a clean setup! Claimed to be no noticeable lag with this set up.
This here is engineering madness. A L28 bored out to 3.1 liters. Then the owner chopped up 3 KA heads and combined them to create a dual cam, 24 valve design. A home-brewed head that could rival OS Giken’s TC24. Then of course, two turbochargers were slapped on. Insane!

I wish. Everybody knows of the Daikoku Futo parking area by now… If you don’t, it’s one of THE places to witness car meet ups in Japan. It’s located near an industrial area for the drifters and it’s just off of Japan’s network of freeways, or Wangans, for the big guns. Just imagine meeting up with hundreds of like minded enthusiasts, all with a car crazier than the last. During the drive home on the Wangan, the Devil Z, or Akuma Zeto, screams past at triple digit speeds with her carbureted, twin turboed L28 screaming. Just another day in Japan…

I LOVE this picture. I’m pretty sure this photoshoot was from the Wangan Midnight live action movie. Just imagine locking yourself in a warehouse with tons of parts and a gorgeous car for the day. Those Watanabes sitting in the pile look craaaaazy.
And what the motor bay of a real Devil Z would look like. OS Giken TC24 DOHC set up with twins. Probably $40+ grand in overnight parts from Japan.
