The year… 1988. The place… Japan. Three years after the infamous 88 m.p.h. DeLorean DMC-12 traveled through time, Mitsubishi decided to one-up Doc Brown. Instead of Flux Capacitors and Nike McFlys, Mitsubishi Motors decided to build some gull-winged cars for a Japanese police drama called Gorilla. With a total of 5 Gullwing Starions ever built and only 3 rumored to have ever been sold, these Starions are about as rare as gorillas driving around in stainless steel DeLoreans. Back in 1988, these gems cost 6,000,000 yen… About three times the cost of a new, conventionally doored Starion, I can’t even fathom what they would trade for now.
Not too many pictures available… Here’s an example rocking some Volk GR-C’s.
Looks like the SSR Reverse Mesh I’m trying to sell!
And just because… Some artwork from Shusei Nagaoka. These were used in the original print ads from Mitsubishi. So rad, so 80′s! Reminds me of the old Trapper Keeper designs.
